Block Printing is a great method for creating custom stamps/designs for your invitation or paper-crafting project! Here is basically how it works: Create an image to carve, either by printing on an ink-jet or laser printer, drawing with a pencil, or tracing onto tracing paper with a pencil. With freshly printed copy or pencil sketch (make sure if your image is 'backwards' so when you print, it will print correctly, especially important for text/monograms) place print/pencil side down onto carving block. Using an iron on low-heat gently transfer the image onto your block. Using a carving set (available also in our Block Printing! section) and a variety of carving tips, carve out the background of your image/text/design, carefully digging out around your image so that when inked it will produce a clear print. Squeeze a small amount of ink onto the Inking Plate (a very flat metal plate that distributes the ink evenly to your roller) and roll a Soft-Rubber Brayer (a handle with rubber roller) over the ink several times to evenly distribute the ink over the roller. Use the roller then to distribute the ink over your image, rolling a few times to ensure every part of your image is inked. Place your inked block onto your paper/material and apply even pressure with the palm of your hand, a bacon press, a book, or any flat object to tranfer your image onto your paper/material. Remove block and repeat for each print! We also sell a Block-Printing press in our Block Printing! section for easier and more efficient block-printing, this will work with any of our carving blocks (with the exception of the 6x12 block which would need to be cut down to 6x8). Just apply double-sided adhesive to the back of your carved block and attach to the press. Prints up to 6x8.
